Celebration of Life Ceremony
On Sunday, August 22nd 2021, we hosted a memorial service in the backyard of our family home in Pacific Palisades, CA.
We would like to thank you for attending, in-person or via livestream, as we celebrated the wonderful life of Paula Leonhauser: beloved wife, mother, therapist, and friend.

Born in Bucks County, PA
AUGUST 28TH, 1958
Paula was born on August 28, 1958, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Daughter to father LTC Paul Leonhauser of the U.S. Army and mother Gertrude Riess, and second youngest of four sisters—Chrissie, Maria, Jackie and Lisa.
Her father’s military career saw the family moving in various directions throughout her youth, which opened Paula up to different cultures from an early age. Despite this, Paula’s hometown of Langhorne, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, has always remained close to her heart, spiritually and otherwise.
A devoted pupil of the arts, Paula found inspiration in expression through classical piano and painting during her adolescence. This passion for creativity led to a Bachelor of Arts in music from UCLA ’81, with emphasis in music theory and ethnomusicology.
In her mid-20s, Paula found comfort in a new direction that positively benefited humankind. An outspoken proponent of education, Paula hoped to promote a supportive, creative learning environment and spent several years as an educational therapist working with special needs children at the ERAS Center.
Paula’s desire to contribute to the greater good of humanity soon took on a higher significance when she earned her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Antioch University. Paula was a practicing Marriage, Family Therapist for 30 years. She and her husband co-owned their private practice, Westside Clinical Associates.
For those who had the opportunity to get to know Paula, they knew what a compassionate and caring individual she truly was. Driven and practical, yet playful and optimistic, warmth came naturally to Paula and rubbed off on those around her.
As a member of the Pacific Palisades community, Paula involved herself in various projects, from local education consulting to improving local safety in coordination with West Traffic Division. But above all, Paula found the greatest reward in her dedication to her family and the professional relationships she nurtured.
Paula passed away peacefully on March 21, 2020 at the age of 61. She is survived by sons Bennett and Drew, husband Charles Kogon, and Australian Shepherd Bella.
